This followed public disagreements, with Darmanin advocating for a ban and criticizing the reservations of the Sports and Education ministers. Darmanin suggested he might resign if his stance wasn't supported. The debate stems from a Senate vote on a law prohibiting veils in sports competitions, and divisions within French sport regarding the wearing of veils.
